Action research on Inuit health and well-being at the Inuit–dog–environment interface
Project co-led by André Ravel and Suzanne Bastian
Dogs are an integral part of the physical, social and cultural environment of the Inuit, representing a source of well-being, but also a potential health threat for the inhabitants of the Arctic communities of Québec.
In order to prevent health problems related to dogs in the Nunavik region, it is essential to work with local communities to understand the current Inuit perspective, as well as take into account the perspectives of other stakeholders, particularly in terms of the positive impact of dogs on health and well-being in how the Inuit interact with the environment. Using an EcoHealth approach based on two-way communication, this research project aims to better understand the connection between dogs and the health and well-being of the inhabitants of Kuujjuaq and to reduce problems related to the interface between the Inuit, their dogs, and the environment in order to optimize well-being.
